1.18 The Live Coal

Isaiah 6:6 (NIV)

Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.

The whole point of the gospel is to make a way for the glory of God to be fully and perfectly revealed in creation.  That was His original design.  He created an environment, placed humans who are made in the image of God in that environment, the universe, and then walked among them in a free exchange of love and glory.  The Garden of Eden.

No sin.  No barrier between God and people.  They lived in the light of His full glory, unharmed by His brightness, unconcerned by His nearness.  In fact, they welcomed His presence as their normal mode of living.  They breathed His Spirit like air. In His Light they saw light. His power comforted them.  They were unafraid.

The day Adam and Eve sinned, the human race died.

The fear of God descended.  The dread of the Holy One haunted them, and their sin and fear became a barrier to fellowship.  God veiled His glory to protect His creation.

And then came Jesus.  At just the right time, when the human race was still helpless, Jesus Christ laid down His life.  His death on the cross ransomed the human race, and His resurrection from the dead gave us a second chance at life.  The veil was torn from top to bottom, and the glory of God peeks through.

Not fully through.  The full revelation of God's glory won't happen until Jesus returns.

Until that Great Day, an invitation has gone out to the whole world.  Come to the altar and have your sin purged away.  Jesus has all power, and He will, if you ask Him, be the hot coal off the great altar in heaven to take away your sin and make you fit for the Glory of God in all its power, to be in you, and on you, and around you, without destroying you.

That is the Good News.  That is the Gospel.

The glory of God will be fully exposed when Jesus Christ returns to earth.  For those who have rejected the gospel, the glory will be fearsome, painful, a horror to experience.  For us who are being saved, however, the glory of God is love, power and a sound mind.  It will be life as God created it to be.

Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.  When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me.  I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness." (John 12:44-46 NIV)

What is keeping you from coming to Jesus Christ for salvation from your sins? Do not be afraid.  Just lay down your pride and come to God, and say, "Have mercy on me, a sinner."  If you do, God will touch you with the Living Coal, and your sin will be destroyed.  Forever gone.  Cast away as far as the east is from the west.

And you will be able to live free in the light of God's glory.  You will love God the way He loves you.
