When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.
How much confidence do you have in the word of God? If God made you a promise, would you be able to stand firm on that promise despite the reversal that appears to come later?
God told Abraham that Isaac was the child through whom the promise would come. By faith, Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham bound Isaac and raised his knife to sacrifice his one and only son reasoning that if God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned, then God would raise Isaac from the dead if He had to in order to keep His promise.
Abraham would have obeyed God and sacrificed Isaac had God not stayed his hand and given him a ram in the end to substitute for the boy instead. Figuratively speaking, when he got the ram substitute, Abraham did receive Isaac back from the dead, but had He not, Abraham maintained his confidence in the word of God, and he maintained it right to the end.
How much confidence do you have in the word of God?
Having begun with God, have you set your face to go with Him to the end, come what may? Or will you give up when you get old? Will you give up when you get sick? Will you give up when your mate defects or your money evaporates or you find yourself living on the street?
We have come to share in Christ IF we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. Hebrews 3:14
Do you see it? The BIG IF?
IF. We have come to share in Christ IF we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
Do you know what an altar is? An altar is the place where your faith is proven. It is the place where you turn your back to fear and turn your face to God. You stand on the Promise despite what your eyes see, your ears hear, or your heart fears.
An altar is the place where you test and see that the Lord is good. It is the place where you put your confidence in the word of God.
Today, instead of making another resolution in the long line of useless new year's resolutions that you have made in the past, why not once and for all build an altar in your heart to offer to God everything that competes with Jesus Christ in your life?
Lay it down and let it go.
Allow God to resurrect only those affections in your life that bring Jesus Christ honor and glory and praise.
Bring the BIG IF to the altar and nail it down once and for all.
